He was the son of William Battershell and Elizabeth Wills. He married Mary Berry on 28 MAR 1865 in Powell Co, Kentucky. They were the parents of William, James, Edgar, Anna, Ambrose, Enis, Samuel, Charles, Bertha, Sylvia, Fred and Bascom.
