Sidney Clay Putnam, son of Prentis Bugbee Putnam and Jemima Emaline Chase, was born Nov. 6, 1842 near Wilmington, Windham Co., Vermont and died Dec. 17, 1920 in Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Josephine Adele Smith July 21, 1870 at Bennington, Bennington Co., Vermont. He enlisted in Co. H, 8th Vermont Infantry Regiment Feb. 18, 1862 and was mustered out April 7, 1864.
