Reuben S. Palmer enlisted in Co. I, 12th Illinois Cavalry Regiment Dec. 30, 1863 and was mustered out on Aug. 28, 1865 at St. Louis, Missouri. He also served in Co. E as indicated on his military headstone. Source: Illinois: Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men. He was born in July 1842 in Canada and died July 4, 1920 in Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa.
