Jacob Brown Coup, son of Levi Coup and Mary Cress, was born Jan. 11, 1842 in Emporium, Cameron Co., Pennsylvania and died April 21 in Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. His obituary gives the birth year as 1841. He married Frances Adelaide Hazelton Sept. 14, 1869 at Emporium, Cameron Co., Pennsylvania. He enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 5th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment Aug. 19, 1861, was later transferred to Co. K, and was mustered out Aug. 7, 1865 at Richmond, Virginia. Source: History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-1865.
