Norma J. Kohles - Age 76
Norma Joan Kohles, daughter of Ivo John and Helen Josephine (Greve) Weiland, was born on January 31, 1937 in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School with the class of 1955.
On September 10, 1956, Norma was united in marriage to Ronald Arthur Kohles at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. They were the parents of five children: Michael, Daniel, Christine, Angela and Michelle. After their marriage, Norma and Ron made their home in California while Ron served his country in the United States Army. Norma remained close to her mother both as a young girl when her father died and later in life when Norma cared for her mother.
The family settled in Omaha and in 1975 they survived a very powerful tornado that went through their backyard. While in Omaha, Norma was a very active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church including several fund raisers for remodeling, volunteering and baking for various church functions. After her children were grown, Norma worked for the American Greeting Card Company and often joined Ron for trips delivering cars to dealerships around the country. They enjoyed their travels and often collected crystal ornaments along the way to adorn her beautiful all crystal Christmas tree.
Norma was very involved with her grandchildren and relished in being a proud grandmother while attending as many soccer games, swim meets, plays, show choir performances and ball games as she was able. She also loved baking and trying new recipes and always had plenty of food for family and friends during the holidays.
Norma died on February 16, 2013 at the Hospice House of Omaha having attained the age of seventy-six years and sixteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald Kohles of Omaha, Nebraska; her children: Michael Kohles and his wife Sue of Cairo, Nebraska; Daniel Kohles and his wife Barbara; Christine and her husband Bill Brewer; Angela and her husband Jeff Miller and Michelle Kohles all of Omaha; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Rev. Michael Eckley celebrated the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Honorary casket bearers were Bernie Kobza and Ray Fugger. Serving as casket bearers were Tyler Kohles, Alec Brewer, Jarett Brewer, Jeff Miller, Bill Brewer, and tim Bialas. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling, Iowa.
