Inscription: Rich'd E. Toy Co. I 16 Wisc. Inf.
Richard E. Toy enlisted as a Private Sept. 27, 1861 in Co. I, 16th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin and was discharged from Co. I on July 6, 1862.
