Inscription: Chas. Starkey Co. E 4th Mo. S. M. Cav.
Charles Starkey, son of John Starkey and Lydia States, was born about 1843 in Grant Co., Indiana and died Sept. 20, 1878 near Conway, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Elva R. Bowerman July 12, 1868 in Marshall Twp., Taylor Co., Iowa. He served as a bugler in Co. E, 4th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry. Source: U. S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865, on-line database.
