Elmer Messenger was the son of Wallace W. Messenger and Drusilla Brown. On August 24, 1905 he married Bertha B. Ogden daughter of Abe Ogden and Mary Britt in Marshall County, Iowa. They had one child, Vernon Ogden Messenger born in 1907.
