William Deforest Van Winkle, son of Oliver Perry Van Winkle and Irene Cox, was born Nov. 24, 1854 in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania and died Sept. 20, 1932 near Conway, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married 1) Alice Matthews Feb. 12,1879 at Corning, Adams Co., Iowa and 2) Zepha LaBelle Hardy Dec. 31, 1908 in Pender, Thurston Co., Nebraska. Both his obituary and 1900 Federal Census give his birth date as Nov. 1854 so the date on the stone may be an error.
