John Alan Melvin, son of James Melvin and Margaret Ann Miller, was born June 6, 1860 near Blandinsville, McDonough Co., Illinois, and died Nov. 3, 1952 in Glenwood, Mills Co., Iowa. He married Sarah Zerelda Lindley Feb. 2, 1880 near Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. Source: Marriage records, Taylor County Courthouse, Bedford, Iowa. Taylor County Republican, Feb. 5, 1880 gives marriage date as Feb. 5th:—Married, at the residence of the bride's parents, one mile west of Bedford,February 5th, Mr. John A. Melvin and Miss Sadie Z. Lindley, Rev. Geo. W. Robey officiating. Her obituary also gives the marriage date as Feb. 5th.
She was born July 5, 1859 in Prosperity, Washington Co., Pennsylvania, daughter of Timothy Stilwell Lindley and Mary Ann Scherich, and died Dec. 22, 1938 at Coin, Page Co., Iowa. Obituaries available Taylor County, Iowa gen web site.
