John Howe, Sr. was born about 1827 in Virginia, son of Jemima Howe, and died Dec. 15, 1915 at Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. He enlisted as a Private in Oct. 6, 1864 and served in Co. K, 55th U. S. Colored Infantry. He married Emily Logan. Obituary available Taylor County, Iowa gen web site.
