Wilson was the son of John Martin Wood and Sarah Tubbs. He married Mary Jenkins on 29 May 1887 in Fonda, Pocahontas, Iowa. They were the parents of Archer, Alphonzo, Lorna, Bryan, Helena, Martin, Clarence, Geneva, Esther, and Margarite.
