Jacob and his daughter, Dora Alice Brecher, were killed in the so-called Pomeroy Cyclone, one of the greatest disasters in Iowa's history. Over 100 people were killed in a tornado that touched down near Alta, Iowa, and destroyed farms and most of the community of Pomeroy, Iowa.
