Alta May (Allum) Hicks shares a grave marker with her husband, Robert Franklin Hicks, at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, Muscatine County, Iowa.

Alta was born in Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa and died in Kansas City, Independence County, Missouri. She was a daughter (the eldest child) of John Banks Allum and Rosanna “Rosa” (Farley) Allum. (Her parents are buried at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Marengo.)

Married in 1898 at Marengo, Alta and Robert eventually had four children (one adopted):
Kenneth Allum Hicks, Maurice Drennon Hicks, Helen “Kathleen” Hicks, and Dorothy Margaret Hicks (Livesay).

Alta was a first cousin to Cal Farley, founder of Cal Farley’s Boys’ Ranch at Amarillo, Texas
