Edgar Stanley was born about 1837 in Pennsylvania and died in 1896 in Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Mary Jane Thomas Nov. 16, 1859 in Racine Co., Wisconsin. He enlisted in Co. E, 8th Illinois Cavalry Regiment Oct. 13, 1864 and was mustered out July 17, 1865 at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri. Source: Illinois: Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men
