He was born in Madison,Indiana. Married Philinda Katherine Montgomery. They traveled by covered wagon to Iowa in 1870.Their first born Molie came with them. They settled in Minburn,Iowa until 1907 when they moved to Linden,Iowa. His father Lewis Hardenbrook was a civil war vet also.He is buried in Perry. Johns brother Lewis Jr died at Missionary Ridge Nov 1865. His older brother James William Hardenbrook was a Lieut. He survived war and went to Oklahoma.
