Elisha Decatur Carpenter, son Stephen Decatur Carpenter and Jerusha Rose, was born May 11, 1827 in New York State and died Mar. 26, 1901 near Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Evangeline Tucker Feb. 13, 1872 at Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. She was born Jan. 27, 1854 in Indiana, daughter of Thomas Tucker and Huldah Bray, and died Nov. 27, 1930 in Hartford, Van Buren Co., Michigan. Their son Benjamin was born in 1872 in Illinois and died in 1893 in Taylor Co., Iowa. Their son Lorenzo Dow was born May 7, 1874 in Illinois and died in Mar. 1929 near Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa.
