Mrs SA Murdock, the mother of the deceased, received a letter from the wife, dated Fort Donlas, Utah, June 9.
Left with his company, under orders to establish a Summer camp in Southern Utah. The Command reached the Grand River, which they were to cross with a Mormon Ferry, the river being very high. They waited one day for the current to go down, so on Sunday, three boatloads of luggage were sent across safely. When Capt M was crossing the rope attached tot he boar broke, throwing Capt M a soldier and all the mules into the water. The swift current carried his body, it will never be recovered. His grave will be ever unknown.
