Born in Waterloo son of Wesley and Gertrude McFarlane Acker. He married LaRue Dietz July 9, 1949 in Iowa City. Their marriage later ended. He married Carol Ferguson (1924-2000) June 1, 1972 in Rockford IL. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII.
Children: Steve, Debbie, Joan
