Born in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Frederick Carl & Marie Ida Louise (Gienapp) Theel. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On June 24, 1946, he married Jean Farmer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of Bryan & Luella (Clinton) Farmer.
