America was born 18 Apr 1848 in Ohio, the 4th of five children of John Bercaw and Eliza Cheasman. Her siblings: Susan May, Margaret Jane, Elizabeth Ellen and Zachariah Taylor.
In 1860 all five children are found living in the home of Christian and Eliza Shenkle in Jackson township, Brown Co., Ohio.
In Brown Co., Ohio, on 29 Aug 1867 America married James W. Morris, son of John Morris and Julia Ann Shenkle. They had three children: Lida Lenora, Charles Stewart and Roy.
James and America left Ohio not long after their marriage and settled in Union township, Wayne Co., Iowa.
America died 16 Feb 1923 and James died 8 years later. They are buried next to each other.
