Hezekiah was born in 21 Feb 1797 in New Jersey. At this time, family researchers have not identified his parentage. He married Elizabeth McNeal probably around 1823 possibly in Pennsylvania. They had seven children: Jane, Catherine, Samuel, John, Stephen, William M. and Matthew. By 1831 when William was born, they were living in Charlestown, Clark Co., Ohio. In 1834 they were living in Darke Co., Ohio and 1840 the family was living in Washington Co., Indiana
Sometime after 1833 Elizabeth died and on 16 Feb 1841 in Jackson County, Indiana, Hezekiah married Sarah Ann Smith who was born in Kentucky. They had three sons: Hezekiah Jr., Robert Tigard and James.
In 1860 the family is found in Silver Creek township, Clark Co., Indiana. As yet Hezekiah has not been found in the 1870 census. It seems he came to Wayne Co., Iowa to live because he had family there -- his son William was a successful farmer in the area. He is buried in the same row as William but a list of the cemetery burials created in 1976 does not mention a stone for his 2nd wife Sarah.
