He married Temperance Deriah Merchant Feb. 17, 1870. She was born June 26, 1851 near Washington County Courthouse, Washington Co., Ohio, daughter of Isaac Merchant and Nancy Caylor, and died July 5, 1925 in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska.
