T. SCOTT DIED SEPT. 12, 1876. AGED 33Y. 2M. & 16D. Epitaph: In my Father's house are many mansions I go to prepare a place for you and I will come again and recieve you unto myself. Where I am ye may be also. (Receive is spelled “receive” on stone.) In the right-hand corner of the base is the stone carvers’ names and location: Root & son Ottumwa
