Obituary (Logan Observer, October 9, 1924): TO JOIN THE INNUMERABLE CARAVAN - A. WAYLAND JOHNSON
A. Wayland Johnson, oldest son of Archie and Olive Johnson, was born in Indiana February 17, 1852, and died at Lincoln, Nebraska, October 3, 1924, at the age of 72. He removed to DesMoines with his parents when quite young, and to Harrison county in the spring of 1860.
He received his early education in the common schools of the county later attending Grinnell and Oskaloosa. He also studied law two years at Iowa City, but gave up a law career to enter the Christian ministry. His first charge was at Leadville, Colorado, followed by pastorates in various states, his last one being at Newton, NJ. He was a minister in New York City for a considerable period of time, and while in that city was married to Miss Olive Kerr, who preceded him in death several years ago. Failing health compelled him to give up his work in the ministry many years ago. He went to Florida for a time, but the last few years of his life were spent in Lincoln, where he had gone to be with his sister.
He is survived by two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. G.H. Longman, Bethany, Neb., Dr. Sarah Montan, Wauchula, Fla., C.F. Johnson, Logan; J.H. Johnson, Riverton Ia.; and W.H. Johnson, Council Bluffs, Ia.
