Lawrence resided in Farley, Iowa and was an accomplished in dentistry, baseball and swimming. His first marriage was to Gertrude Tuel who died in 1919. Together they had two daughters: Lois & Catherine. Lawrence's second marriage was to Marie NEE O'Meara. Together they had 4 children: Thomas; James; and twins John M. & Jane.
