Evelyn M. Kearney, 93, a resident of Davenport died peacefully, Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Kahl Home, Davenport. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan –McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport.
There will be additional visitation in the church gathering space on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:25 a.m.
Evelyn Mae Swanson was born October 23, 1917 in Geneseo, Illinois a daughter of Charles Edward and Tillie Maud (Williams) Swanson. She was united in marriage to John W. Kearney, Sr. on September 2, 1939 at St. Paul the Apostle, Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1991.
Evelyn had been a long time parish member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
She cherished the time spent with her family; she was especially proud of her children, and she loved watching her grandchildren grow up and start their own families. She was pleased with the legacy that she and her husband created.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Kahl Home or St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Robert Behnke, Terre Haute, Indiana; Sandra and James Stulir, Moline; Diana Sutton, East Moline; Beverly Gahagan, Rock Island; sons and a daughter-in-law, John W. “Jack” and Mary Lynn Kearney, Moline; and Stephen Kearney, Denver, Colorado; a son-in-law, Kelly Ambrose, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria (Mrs. Richard) Snow, Geneseo, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Nancy Ambrose, and sons-in-law, Tom Gahagan and Gary Sutton. May they rest in peace.
The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the caregivers and staff at the Kahl Home and Genesis Hospice VNA for all the comfort and love they provided to their mother.
