Knud was born on the Remmesbrekken farm in Vang, Norway, so his farm name/surname at birth was Remmesbrekken. His middle name (patronymic name) has also been spelled Eivindsen. He farmed on the Ostrem (Austreim) farm and became owner of the farm in 1849. He immigrated the following year and the farm ownership went to his brother. He immigrated in 1850 aboard the ship "Ørnen" with his wife, Kari, their five children, and a son-in-law. He lived out his life in Iowa, residing in Springfield and Glenwood Townships.
