[Email]Adam Wesley Brown, a pioneer citizen of Kellogg, died suddenly Saturday morning, September 16, 1911 of heart failure.
Mr. Brown was born in Maumee, Ohio, November 15, 1834; moved with his parents, when quite young, to Winnebago county, Illinois, where he remained till 1864. During that year he made a journey to San Francisco, California, and in 1866 came to Jasper county, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Rock Creek township, where he remained until 1872, when he traded his farm for the hotel property in Kellogg, which he occupied until the time of his death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Elvira Woodard on December 28, 1856 in Illinois. Three children were born to them, all of whom are living and were at the funeral. They are Martin Wesley Brown of Boone, Cynthia Isabelle Wolverton of Des Moines and Leila Gertrude Leach of Kellogg.
Deceased was a man of temperate habits and sturdy constitution, and he continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits till long past the age at which men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers. To this end there is no doubt his sunny disposition largely contributed.
He was survived by his wife and three children, one sister and three brothers. All the members of his family and one brother, Mr. Benjamin Brown of Scotland, South Dakota, and a niece, Miss Mattie Pophan of Marysville, Mo., were present at the funeral.
The funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon, conducted by the Masonic order, of which deceased was an honored and devoted member. At the close of the service the remains were laid to rest in the Kellogg cemetery.
