Son of
A. & E.J. Ashbrook
Died
Apr. 26, 1865
Buried in Public Grounds #203.
Note: The full size headstone was likely read in full during the 1960s Prill cemetery transcription project, from which the above information is obtained. The headstone now (Fall, 2009) is upright but likely broken and reset into the ground so that the inscription below the "Son of" is not visible.
At some point there must have been questions raised during research about the exact circumstances and date of his death. The following note is included by his entry in the Prill cemetery transcription:
"Note: ANDREW J. ASHBROOK, age 26, nativity Ohio; residence Fairfield; enlisted Aug. 9, 1862, Co. B, 19th Iowa Infantry. Roster shows he died of disease June 15, 1864, Brownsville, Texas. Soldiers Graves Registrations at court house show he died June 19, 1864; buried Fairfield City Cemetery."
