Detlef Kahl, who for many years operated a truck farm and greenhouse in Bettendorf, Iowa died at 4 p.m. Wednesday in his home in Bettendorf. Death followed an illness of six months.
Mr. Kahl was born June 7, 1860, in Germany, and at the age of 18 came to this country, directly to Bettendorf, then known as Gilbertown. Detlef married Magdalena Migheel in 1886. They were the parents of Emil, Odie, Harry, Alfred, Alma, Anna, and Raymond. After Magdalena's death, Detlef married Marguerite Timmerman in 1907. She died in 1909.
Detlef married to Emma Jipp in Davenport, October 13, 1910. Prior to retiring four years ago, he was actively engaged in the greenhouse business in Bettendorf for many years, and was widely known for some of his products, particularly the Brand Pacific tomato plants, which he developed here. He was one of the most successful gardeners in the county at the time.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Odie; 3 sons, Emil W. RR 1 Davenport, Alfred, Emil, and Raymond; 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. A son, Harry, died in 1942. Mr. Kahl was the last of five children. He was the son of Heinrich Kahl and Anna Moeller.

The death of Mrs Wilhelmina Kahl nee Timmerman occured at home in Bettendorf Saturday morning at 7 am after an illness of 2 months. The deceased was 44 years 6 months and 13 days of age. She married Detlef Kahl February 14, 1907. She is survived by her step children; Emil Kahl, Odie Seaman nee Kahl, Harry Kahl, Alfred Kahl, and Raymond Kahl.
