NANCY AGNES MCLANE RALSTONHickory Grove CemeteryJackson County, IowaUploaded 9/6/2007 by dennisbutt [Email]This headstone was placed recently, based on the family stories told about her. The original stone simply said "Mother." The story is that Nancy called herself "Blackfoot." The person who placed the headstone thought she was someone from Carlisle School, since she was near there, but she was born too early to have been a student at Carlisle. It is said that she slept in a bedroom with chickens on her bed. She was said to have been a pipe smoker and to have said that she "never crossed the threshold of a white man."
