Stavanger is situated in Marshall County, south of LeGrand; Marshall County, Iowa. She married Chester Thomas Twedt on Wednesday; March 10, 1909 at her mother's home in Paullina, Iowa. They farmed in Marshall County first, then in South Dakota, O'Brien County, Iowa and back to Marshall County to Le Grand and then to a farm west of Melbourne; Marshall County, Iowa. One could find her most anywhere on the farmstead. She was a necessary part of the farming operations. She always had her chicken chores to do besides. In the home, her ingenuity ran rampant and she was constantly using her creative talents to fix up something in a novel fashion. The saw, hammer and the screw driver along with her paint brush or wallpaper tools were very such a part of her life. With the home being an important part of her life, one could also find her whipping up a meal for a table full of people in nothing flat. She prided herself in the fact that the table be set correctly and colorfully when a meal was to be served. After Chester passed away, Elvira realizing that the work involved with farming was more that she could handle. She sold the farm and bought a house in Melbourne, Iowa. Here again she was able to use her creativity to its utmost. She kept busy and soon found herself working as a clerk in a book and gift shop in Marshalltown for nine years. She drove the fourteen miles to and from Marshalltown in all types of weather. Besides her job she was an active member of Eastern Star in LeGrand, the LeGrand Literary Musical Club, the American Legion Auxiliary in Melbourne and the Business and Professional Women's Club in Marshalltown. Elvira was forced to spend her last years in a rest home in Marshalltown and passed away on Tuesday; September 19, 1972 in Marshalltown. She is buried in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery in LeGrand; Marshall County, Iowa.
