Ephraim Farley was born in 1819 in Fittleton parish, Wiltshire, England, a son of Job Farley and Sarah Howell. He married Margaret McReynolds in 1843 in Kentucky where a daughter was born to them in 1844. Additional children were born near Galesburg in Knox County, Illinois. (Daughter Mary Ann, who died at age 9 in 1853, is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery at Galesburg.)
About 1866, Ephraim and Margaret, daughters Esther, Rosanna, Melissa, Lucy, Lida and sons Joe, Sam and Frank migrated to Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa. The three male siblings eventually settled in Minnesota where they are buried in different locations.
In addition to Ephraim and Margaret, four of five daughters who moved with them to Iowa are buried at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Marengo: Rosanna “Rosa” (married John Banks Allum); Melissa (married David Weber Wentworth); Lucy (married Robert Jefferson Meenach); and Lida Farley, who died at age 15 in 1881.
Ephraim and Margaret (McReynolds) Farley were the paternal grandparents of Cal Farley (1895-1967), founder of Cal Farley Boys’ Ranch at Amarillo, Texas.
