Son of Horace and Lucy Lyman: 1842 Van Buren County, Iowa - 6 November 1862

The 36th Iowa Infantry was organized at Camp Lincoln, Keokuk, Iowa in the late summer of 1862. Records show that while the unit was still organizing, it was struck by a measles epidemic which took the lives of nearly 100 men. The regiment was mustered into Federal service on October 4, 1862. A total of 930 officers and enlisted men were mustered into service as members of the regiment. According to Grace Clemons, in a letter to Ruth Lyman Clark dated Dec. 15, 1959, " Henry died at home while he was on furlough."
