The De Witt Observer; page 1; December 15, 1927 page 1. DeWitt Man Dies at Home of Son Here. Funeral services for James Kearney were held this morning at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's church. The pall bearers were M.J. Tourpey, John H. Gribbon, John Welsh, John McManus, Ignatius McAllister of DeWitt and Jerry Wolfe of Grand Mound. James Kearney was born in Davenport, Iowa, July 23, 1849, and came with his parents to the Kearney homestead west of DeWitt when a boy of eight years. January 6, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Crowley of Lanesborough, Minn., and they lived on the Kearney farm west of DeWitt until 1901 when they purchased a home in DeWitt. Mrs. Kearney died December 24, 1925. Mr. Kearney died Tuesday, December 13th at the home of his son John Kearney, living north of DeWitt. He is survived by three sons, Frank, Michael and John Kearney, and two daughters Mrs. T.F. Crowley and Miss B. Kearney all living in the vicinity of DeWitt. There are also seventeen grandchildren.
The Clinton Herald Wednesday December 14, 1927 p. 14 DeWitt - (Special) - James Kearney, who died at the home of his son, Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock will be held at St. Joseph's church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated. James Kearney was born in Davenport, Iowa, July 23, 1849 and came with his parents to the Kearney homestead west of DeWitt when a boy of eight years. January 6, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Crowley of Lanesborough, Minnesota and the couple lived on the Kearney farm west of this city until 1901 when they purchased a home in town and where they lived happily until the death of Mrs. Kearney which occurred December 24, 1925. The deceased was of a quiet disposition and was a highly respected citizen. The deceased is survived by Frank Kearney, Miss Bridget Kearney, Michael Kearney, Mrs. T.F. Crowley and John Kearney all living in and around DeWitt. There are seventeen grandchildren.
