The Clinton Herald Saturday March 11, 1944 p. 10 Horace Ingwersen, 50, prominent Clinton bowler, dropped dead in the dressing room of the Clinton recreation parlor last night at 9:15 o'clck as he was changing shoes after finishing bowling for the night. Ingwersen, president of the bowlers' association had remarked frequently that he "wanted to die in the bowling alley." Dr. Fred B. Morgan, county coroner, said that no inquest would be held. He pronounced the cause of death to be a heart attack. Horace Ingwersen was born in Clinton county, near Bryant, Sept. 8, 1893, son of the late George and Amelia Ingwersen. He served as Clinton county sheriff from 1922 until 1924 and was active in the city's athletic program. He enlisted in World War I, joining the Headquarters company of the 125 field artillery May 2, 1917. He received his discharge as a corporal Jan. 20, 1919; in Camp Dodge. A charter member of June Van Meter post, 190, American Legion, he also belonged to the 40 and 8 Volture. He was a member of the Odion association and the Loyal Order of Moose. His body reposes in the Snell funeral home and funeral arrangements have been made for Monday at 3 p.m. in the American Legion home where he was employed. Burial will be in the family lot in Oakland cemetery. Survivors are a brother, Lt. Comdr. Burton Ingwersen, U.S. naval pre-flight school, Chapel Hill, N.C.; a nephew, Gordon Ingwersen and aunts and uncles.
