Retired Rail Man is Dead
Milton N. McLane,82, retired Burlington railroad Conductor, and a resident of Burlington for the past 63 years, died Sunday, at 10:30 p.m. at his home, 913 S. 8th St after having been in failing health for some time.
Born March 14, 1861, in Kankakee Illinois, the son of nOah and Mary Hertz McLane. He came to Burlington as a young man and has lived here continously with the exception of 15 years spent in Oskaloosa.
He started his railroad career with B.C.R. and N. a narrow guage, which was later taken over by the Burlington. He retired from active service in June 1931.
He was married to Cecelia M. Brown who died 8 years ago and in 1938 he married Selma Hertzler who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Lauer, and Mrs. Leah Cate, both of Peoria; one son, George McLane of Burlington; one granddaughter, Mrs. C.R. Ehresman of Washington D.C., a grandson, Mr. Jack McLane, Burlington Iowa and a great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be announced, following the arrival of the daughters.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the order of the Eastern Star, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Railroad Veterans association of Burlington and the Masonic lodge and White Shrine of Jerusalem at Oskaloosa.

Mrs. McLane Passes Away
Mrs. M.N. McLane,73, of 913 South Eighth Street, resident of Burlington 47 years, died at her home last night following a lingering illness.
She was born in Saranac, N.Y. Aug 6, 1861, and was the former Celia M. Bowen, daughter of Amelia Durette and Brainard F. Bowen. Her parents came to Burlington in March 1872.
She was married to Milton McLane, Nov 1,1881. Except for several years in Oskaloosa Ia., she lived her continously. She beloned to First Christian Church, Oskaloosa and also was a member of the White Shrine of Jeusalem, Oskaloosa; E.C. Blackmar chapter of the Eastern Star, ladies auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen; Womens Independent Circle and the Railroad Veterans Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. R.C. Lauer, Gary Indiana and Mrs. G.D. Cate, Peoria Ill; a son, George B McLane, Burlington; one grandson, Jack McLane; a granddaughter, Cecilia Cate, Peoria and two brothers, George A. Brown, Burlington and Chaucey F Brown, Cleveland, Ohio.
The funeral will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. Friday with burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. George Purdy of Des Moines will officiate. The body was to be taken to the home from the Unterkircher funeral home late this afternoon.
