He was engaged with one of our armored regiments, in a defensive action against strong enemy forces in the vicinity of Sidi Bau Zid, Tunisia. He was presumed dead in 1944, and awarded the "Order of the Purple Heart" for military merit at the direction of the President, as a tangible expression of the Country's gratitude for his gallantry and devotion.
