Robert John was his given first and middle names but he went by "John" throughout his life.

"You ain't seen nothin' yet" was a phrase that John said many times.

The robin symbolizes his love of animals. As a youth he once raised an orphan robin that became a pet. It would sit on John's finger and follow him around. For a few years the robin would return in the springtime and remembered John.
