LIFE STORY OF
DICY ELIZABETH KING, 86
Dicy Elizabeth, daughter of James Madison and Rebecca (Wells) Deen was born in Washington County, Iowa, October 31, 1866. The father died in 1870 but the family lived there until 1888 when they moved to Harlan.
September 29, 1901 she was united in married Charles D. Johnson and went to make her home with him and his three sons at Woodbine, Iowa. In 1905 she, with her husband and his youngest son, Frank R. Johnson, moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa. After her husband died in 1907 she and Frank moved to Shelby county and made their home together in Harlan.
In July 1911, she was to married Solomon King and moved to Iowa Falls, where they resided until the death of Mr. King October 10, 1925.
Most of the time since Mr. King’s death she made her home with the Frank R. Johnson family, first at Kirkman, Iowa and then at Harlan. During the time of this residence in Harlan she lived for about four years with her sister, Mrs. Nora Porter until something over a year ago she was taken to Sidney, Nebraska where she again resided in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson until death came Sunday, October 11, 1953 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 10 days.
Surviving are two sisters, Anna Deen and Mrs. Nora Porter, both of Harlan; one sister-in-law, Mrs. J.M. Deen, of Harlan; one step-son, Mr. Frank R. Johnson of Sidney, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held at the H.C. Pauley home for funerals, Wednesday, October 14, 1953. Bro. Horace Hinds, Minister of the Church of Christ officiating.
Bearers were Jake Meier, Frank Potter, Frank Hammes, Harvey Jacobsen, Clarence Jacobsen and Arthur Savereide. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
