HARLAN — Harvey Anderson, son of Jens and Anna (Petersen) Anderson, was born Aug. 14, 1916, in rural Audubon. He grew up on the family farm located seven miles west of Audubon and attended Spring Valley School #4 in Douglas Township. He worked for area farmers until he joined the U.S. Army in October 1941. After his discharge in September 1945, he moved to Harlan, and was employed by Brodersen Feed & Seed, now known as Nelson Farm Store.
April 21, 1946, he married Dora Otto in Harlan. Beginning in November 1952, Harvey worked with the Harlan Municipal Utilities. He retired in April of 1979. He later assisted with funerals at Burmeister Funeral Home. After Dora's death Aug. 28, 1994, he moved to Audubon to be near his companion, Elizabeth Anderson. He became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Oct. 16, 2000. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he helped with various maintenance duties. He. was also a member of the Helmer Reyelt AL Post #150 in Harlan. He died Feb. 15, 2001, at Salem Lutheran Home at age 84 years, six months and one day.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dora; two sisters, Christena Christensen and Ruby Knudsen; and one niece, Anna Mae Atkinson.
Survivors include one brother, Lester (Myrta) Anderson of Denison; one sister, Leona (Richard) Nelsen of Elk Horn; his companion, Elizabeth Anderson of Audubon; seven nieces and nephews, Wayne Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Marilyn Gorsh, Jerald Knudsen, Janelle Noel, Judy Knudsen and Donald Christensen, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Feb. 19, 2001, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, with Pastor Jon Benson and Pastor Heather Becklin officiating. Casket bearers were Wayne Anderson, Shirley Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Jerald Knudsen, Judy Knudsen and Robert Atkinson. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery. Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
