James Manus Johnston, son of Emerson Jefferson Johnston and Mary Catherine Richardson, was born Mar. 29, 1894 in Taylor Co., Iowa and died Dec. 8, 1980 in Afton, Union Co., Iowa. His World War I Draft Registration Card, obituary and Iowa, County Marriages give his birth date as 1894. He married Vesta May Straight Sept. 9, 1915 in Holt Twp., north of Gravity, Taylor Co., Iowa. She was born May 15, 1898 in Elliott, Montgomery Co., Iowa, daughter of Lorenzo W. Straight and Grace Casteel, and died Mar. 30, 1978 in Creston, Union Co., Iowa.
