On 22 Oct 1949, Shirley married Bud Messenger and they had three children: Michael, Mark and Ann that they raised in Eagle Grove. ----------- Howard Thomas "Bud" Messenger was the eldest of three children born to Lee Allen Messenger and Ena Mary Smith in New London, Iowa. His siblings: Lee and Muriel Elaine. He served in the Navy Air Force in WWII; enlisted: 31 Jul 1941; discharged: 21 Dec 1945. After the war Bud first opened a photography business in Nemaha, Iowa, then moved it to Eagle Grove in 1951. After retiring in 1980 he was a rural mail carrier for six years.
