Geo. W. Brees died Jan. 26, 1889 aged 54 Y's. 8 M's. 3 D's. [G.A.R. marker]

George was born 23 Mar 1837 in Franklin Co., Indiana, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Crist) Brees. He married Sarah Elizabeth Burns, daughter of Adam Bertrand and Elizabeth (Brown) Burns, on August 31, 1858, possibly in Appanoose County, Iowa.

Civil War record:
Enlisted as Private, 3 Nov 1864, Co I, 13th Inf Reg Iowa. Mustered out Co I, 13th Inf Reg Iowa, 21 Jul 1865 at Louisville, KY.
