Edmund was the son of Daniel Moriarty and Julia Kennedy. He married Rosa Belle Smith on 14 January 1903 in Fort Dodge, Webster, Iowa. They were the parents of Bernadette, Daniel, John, Fred James, Harry, Edmund, Paul, Bernard Joseph, Julia Rose, and Richard Thomas.
