Samuel Hartzler, son of Abraham Hartzler and Nancy Ann Eberly, was born Nov. 3, 1842 in Wayne Co., Ohio and died Feb. 4, 1916 east of Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Josephine Lois Sigler Nov. 30, 1863 at Memphis, Scotland Co., Missouri. He enlisted in Co. I, 13th Iowa Infantry Regiment Nov. 1, 1861 and was mustered out Nov. 13, 1862 at Jackson, Mississippi.
