Claude Bowen, son of Samuel Fordyce Bowen and Virginia Taylor, was born Dec. 4, 1874 near Abingdon, Knox Co., Illinois (his obituary gives the date as 1873) and died Aug. 10, 1928 at Clearfield, Taylor Co., Iowa. He married Estella Pearl Evans April 11, 1908 at Mt. Ayr, Ringgold Co., Iowa.
