Horace was the son of Elisha Herrick & Betty (Kingsley) Gates. He married Sarah J. Gray on Dec 24, 1849. He married Mary Conway in May of 1857 in Jackson Co, IA. Horace was the father of Albert, Alice, Frank, Charlie, Freddie, & another son born in 1880.
