Born Benton Co. IA, Newspaper editor. In 1917, Barnett became the owner/editor of the Farley Advertiser. In 1943, he sold the paper tot the Cascade Pioneer and began publishing the Farley Home Press. He serve as mayor for 1928-1929 and again in 1934. Following his term, the people of Farley hosted a party in his honor and then used the proceeds to construct a summer cabin for him near Guttenberg.
